Sensei Doug's History

 

 

 

Sensei Douglas Achterberg is a veteran of the United States Navy.  He has been married 28 years and is the father of two sons who are also Uechi Ryu Nidans (2nd degree black belt). 

He has trained in Okinawan Karate for 19 years achieving the rank of Rokudan (6th degree black belt) and Shihan (Master Instructor) in karate and Godan (5th degree black belt) and Shihan (Master Instructor) in Kobudo (Okinawan weapons) Certified under Master Shinyu Gushi of the Ryukokaku, and a Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) under Master Matsukazu Kinjo of the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozonkai.

 

His first black belt test in 1993 was conducted in the Shinjo dojo in Kadena, Okinawa.  On another of three visits to Okinawa, he has competed in the Okinawan Karate and Kobudo World Tournament in 1997.

He has taught in Germany countless times and has attended International Koshukai training there and throughout the United States.

He began teaching in the Antioch Dojo in 1993 and has been an continually teaching Traditional Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate and Kobudo ever since.

Sensei Doug enjoys teaching at home and abroad and training with Okinawan Masters whenever possible.
